The modern day Prague is bursting with department stores, designer boutiques, restaurants, theatres, and art galleries. A series of tram lines zig zag the city, which makes it easy to get around, but be careful when crossing the roads. Numerous coffee bars provide relief whilst shopping, a vast range of hotels are situated in the city centre. As evening falls, plenty of bars, clubs and entertainment venues are open and are very accommodating.
Terezin
Visit the Terezin fortress, built between 1780 and 1790, it served as a prison and penitentiary for the army at the time of the Halsberg monarchy. The most tragic chapter in its history came during the occupation of the Czech lands by Nazi Germany in 1939. The Gestapo police prison was established in Terezin as a key link in the repressive system of the Nazi occupation authorities.
A national cemetery stands in the foreground of a small fortress. A Ghetto museum is available also to visit. This was used to house jewish boys aged between 10 – 15 years old. The funeral rooms & central mortuary are also available to view.
